“When the Sun Went Away” – Reading comprehension worksheet you completed with Ms. Murray
The Boy Who Drew Cats – You read this today on the computer
I liked Tea With Milk the best because it was the most interesting one out of the three. When the Sun Went Away seemed like it could've been better. The boy who Drew Cats was too much fantasy, and I like more real but not real. Also, when I saw the pictures and heard the story of Tea With Milk I felt like I was in the book. I liked at the end of Tea With Milk where it said, "and I was their first child." That made it interesting also.

My favorite story was Tea With Milk. One reason I liked it was because before I was born, my family lived in San Francisco. It also compared Japan to San Francisco. It compared the food, clothes and culture. I liked that it showed her from when she was young to when she was married. I can't imagine being her.

I think my favorite story would be "When the Sun Went Away." I liked how there was a big party at the end because the sun came out. The other stories were good but I liked this one the best. I don't think the moon would be mean and let out evil spirits. Also I liked that the sun and the moon became friends again at the end of the story.

I agree with ES18. I like the story Tea with Milk. I was to bored to even bother to like When the Sun Went Away. The Boy Who Drew Cats was to much stuff. I think that they could have taken out the goblin part. That just made the story to long. I wish I could go back in time so Mrs. Walker can read it again.

My favorite story is Tea With Milk. I like it for the same reason as ES18 AND how the story is slowly unfolding by the girl likes Japan, doesn't like it, likes it, doesn't like it, etc. I do not remember the girl's name, actually. I was interested when the girl was expected to marry under a matchmaker. All over Asia that used to happen! I wouldn't want that!
ReplyDeleteGS19
I agree with you GS19! I enjoyed the story too!! I would not want to marry someone either that someone else picked for me too.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you SS20! I liked "When the Sun Went Away" because the author acted like the Sun goddess, and the NIght god acted like they were people. and how they had to make noise to get the Sun goddess to come out.
I liked the Boy Who Drew Cats because it talked about art and I like art. I also liked it because the boy was clever and he listened to his apprentice. It was fun to see how the boy listened when his apprentice said stay away from big, stick to little. I also liked it because when he drew cats, his cats destroyed the ugly green goblin.

I agree with you CM15 because the Boy Who Drew Cats was very mysterious. I liked the part when the clever boy stayed in the cupboard and did not come out of it when he heard the fighting noise. The part that was when he found out it was a goblin and the drawings came alive was one of the parts I liked. It was a good, ancient story. It was great!

My opinion is that Tea with Milk. The reason I like it is because it tells you the ways of the Jappanese. For example the Jappanese have paper windows and they sit on floors. I also like it because the drawings were very good. I really enjoyed it. I think I might tell my little brother the story.

I like The Boy who Drew Cats the best. I liked it When the boy's cats came alive. They killed the goblin. In When the Sun Went Away there wasn't enough to read. In Tea With Milk I didn't like the sadness in the stoiry.

I also agree with Es#18 and RA#1.
ReplyDeleteTea With Milk was an interesting story, my favorite part was when she moved to Japan and how the author compared the two different places. When The Sun Went Away was so boring I almost fell asleep. I also liked The Boy Who Drew Cats. I liked it because the cats became alive and killed the goblin. It was funny when the boy slept in the cupboard.

My favorite story was Tea with Milk. I liked it because it was a fun story. It had a lot more details than the other stories. I liked the part when May went away to get a job. I felt bad when she had to sit on the floor because there were no chairs. I also was glad that she found a husband and made her own house.

The boy who drew cats. It was fantasy and I liked the goblin. I loved the story. It was great. WK11
ReplyDeleteMy favorite story was "The Sun Who Went Away". I liked this story because
ReplyDeletewhen the night god scared the sun god, she went inside the cave and wouldn't come out. Then the whole village was dark. But when the villagers beat the drums, she was curious. So when her arm came out, The villagers pulled on her arm and she came out. Then the the night god was sad so he apologized. I like this story because it had the most detail.

ReplyDeleteI liked The Sun Who went Away because I like Greek Mythology and it was Greek Mythology. I also like that the God of the Night didn't have character in the beginning and then said sorry at the end. I thought that it wasn't ggoing to be good by looking at the cover. Don't judge a book by the covor.
I liked all the stories because each of them has it's special humor. I liked "Tea With Milk" because it was a romance story and I am a big fan of romance. I liked "The Boy Who Drew Cats" because it was my type of fantasy; it was a bit freaky but it made me smile. I liked the idea of the haunted temple but I still don't know what the priest said "Don't start big, keep it small". Well I hope I figure it out some day. I liked "When The Sun Went Away " because It's amazing that other people think the moon is bad and the sun is good. I think it was not the right thing to do when the god of the moon put a snake on the god of the sun's chair. I was overjoyed when the Japanese people persevered to get the god of the sun out of the cave.
ReplyDeleteThat's all I have to say.

P.S: If any one nows what this means "Don't start big keep it small", please tell me !
I liked "The Boy Who Drew Cats" the best because it was fantasy. I like fantasy because it can't happen in real life, but can be read because books don't have only non-fiction. "The Boy Who Drew Cats" was especially fun and funny; 1st because we all read it online and 2nd you don't usually see smart kids drawing cats on temples and the cats coming alive and defeating a goblin every day. Also I can't exactly say that "The Boy Who Drew Cats" was my favorite because "The Sun Who Went Away" was also a good story and it had Greek mythology. I especially like Greek mythology.

Wow! It seems like the majority of you enjoyed "Tea With Milk" the best. I really enjoyed all three stories for a variety of different reasons. But if I needed to pick my favorite, I would say it was "Tea With Milk." I thought the illustrator did a fantastic job and the storyline had a surprising ending.

I also agree with SS20 because when the sun went away had an amazing ending but didn't like the beginning.

My favorite book is Island Of The Blue Dolphins because it talks about a girl that is really brave that she swam to a island to be alone and the island is called Island Of The Blue Dolphins.
