I noticed when I was walking around Nara that there are no street names/street signs. What do you think about this? Do you think it is a good or bad idea? What would be good (pro) or bad (con) about not having street names? Do you think it is easier or harder to get around the city? Explain.

ReplyDeleteI think that this is a bad idea. The reason I don't agree with this is if somebody got lost trying to get somewhere, they couldn't find the way there because it isn't easy to get where they are going if there isn't street names, and especially if it is something important like a appointment. And what if they are running late for something like work, that won't be easy.
I think that it is not the best idea. I think that it's not that good of an idea because you do directions by street names. People tell others about accidents by street names also. That is why I do not think it is a good idea to not have street names and signs.

I think it's a good and bad. I think its a bad idea because you don't know where you are going. I think its a good idea because you probably know degrees really well. I also think its harder to get around the city because you don't now where you are going.

I'm not sure if it is a good idea or not. I know that we are used to using street signs to help us find our way around, but not all people do things the same. It really makes me wonder how Japanese people describe places to each other. I'm so very curious as to how they give directions. I wonder if they pay more attention to landmarks. Maybe Mrs. Walker can be a little anthropologist for me and find out :)
ReplyDeleteLearning little differences about each other is WONDERFUL! It makes us realize that not everything has a "right" way! Happy discovering!

I think it is a good idea that they do not have street names. I thought this because you wouldn't have to know all of those street names that we normally use. Instead you can use your surroundings to find out where you are. I wouldn't have to read the signs anyway. I like mysteries so it would be a lot of fun trying to figure out where I am. I think it would be a lot easier to get around the city. Arigato!

I think it's a bad idea because you can't find which way to go. also some times you can get lost.A good thing is that people in Japan are very kind and helpful. They could help you get around the city.Another bad reason is that maybe you can't find your way to the train.NH#8
ReplyDeleteI think that that this is a bad idea because it will be hard for people to find there way around. And I agree with you CM15 and KO16. If there were no street signs it would not be easy to park, go on green and stop on red and go slow on yellow. It will be hard to know if were you are parking is a legal or illegal.

It would be fine. I think this is also a fine idea because there are people from japan everywhere and they could be able to direct them. I know this can sound odd to other people but it's fine to have people that can direct you all around the city if you ask them to.(They are polite)I think differently from what everybody else thinks.WK11
ReplyDeleteI think it would a con. It would be a lot harder to find where to go. You might also start going the wrong way and then realize a lot later. One pro would be, waste less money by not spending any money on street signs, street lights, etc.

I agree with CM 15 and KO#16, but the Japanese people probably have their own way of getting around. Maybe they use compasses or memory. I don't know what those people use, but most other beings might not understand quickly! Maybe I will if I know the Japanese language.... Everybody is different and have different lifestyles. No street signs would be hard for me, but probably easy for Japanese people.

I think it is a bad idea to have no street sings. I always hear my parents talking on the phone where they want to meet them. Almost the whole time they talk in street sings and intersections language. If there was no street sings, like in Nara, there would be 1 less language to use and it's 10000000000000000000000000 times harder to get around Japan. Instead of saying,"Meet me on Sunset and Robertson,"you would have to say,"Meet me by that little comic shop across the street from that really awesome restaurant."

Ithink It's very hard. I think it is crazy.I think they can't find even find their house. Maybe they can't find there supermarket. It also makes it hard for the mail to be delivered. A good thing is the town people have really good memories. Or else I hope they have GPS!

I do not think it is a good idea. If you use Google maps, you would not know where to go. maybe the Japanese kids have to memorize their way to school if they have to walk. I agree with GS19. Everyone has different lifestyles.

I think it would bad.
ReplyDeleteIt would be bad because: The navigation systems won't work, and if your friends want to come over they won't know where to come.It will also be bad because If there is a robber and you call the police they might not know where to go. It will also be a bad idea because your address can be in two different locations and id it is a friend might go to the different place.

I think it is a bad idea because if there are no stop signs the car would keep on going and if a person is walking the car would run the person over.
